Vacation rentals drawing debate

SANTA FE, N.M. -- The city of Santa Fe is collecting lodger's tax and gross receipts tax from a vacation rental industry that is technically illegal according to city code -- an issue the city's legal staff will examine as debate over Santa Fe's short-term rental law continues.

The law prohibits renting homes for less than 30 days at a time, although many people who live in Santa Fe's north and east side historic districts have been fuming for years that the law remains unenforced by city officials. [ Read full article ]


City - Register rentals or face consequences

More than 1,000 Destin homeowners have been asked to register their rental homes with City Hall, the latest step in the city's plan to regulate longterm rental property in Destin.

The City Council passed an ordi- nance in July requiring owners of long-term rentals -- short-term rentals have been regulated for several years -- to register with the city and to make sure their tenants comply with the city's parking, garbage and occupancy rules. [ Read full article ]


Florida Housing Finance

A new online site that officially debuts today should make it easier for Florida residents to locate affordable, subsidized rental housing.

The Web site, FloridaHousingSearch.org., can be searched by community and identifies apartments and other properties funded by the Florida Housing Finance Corp. As the system is developed, other government-subsidized and privately owned affordable-rent properties will register units on the site.

Properties are identified by name and location, with a map and telephone number. Rent and deposit information as well as size and amenities are posted. [ Read full article ]
